The Facts about the 2010 Search for the Southbridge Superintendent of Schools

The following quote appears in the most recent article by reporter Brian Lee in The Worcester Telegram and Gazette concerning the resignation of Superintendent of Schools, Eric Ely.
School Committee member Scott S. Lazo said, “The Eric Ely administration will go down as a failed administration. I saw it — I tried to expose it — people didn't want to listen to me. And in the end now they see it.”  [23 Jan 2013. Worcester Telegram and Gazette: Southbridge school superintendent resigns. Brian Lee.]
Those who have followed the process that led to the hiring of Mr. Ely in 2010 by the Southbridge School Committee know that Mr. Lazo's participation in that process and his unqualified and glowing recommendation along with the support of other like-minded members of the Southbridge School Committee directly led to the hiring of Mr. Ely.

In short, if, as Mr. Lazo stated, "The Eric Ely administration will go down as a failed administration," then the failure must be shared by those who hired him. As history and newspaper accounts at the time show, Mr. Lazo was chief among those who selected Mr. Ely.

In November I wrote a 6-part series about the 2010 search for the Southbridge Superintendent of Schools.  Those who are interested in the facts can find that series here.
